Seven Etudes, is a collection of piano pieces serving as a sequel to Tides (Emilio’s 2020 solo piano album). These new works evoke echoes of Latin American folk, jazz, and contemporary classical music, while resisting full commitment to any one style. Improvisation habits the album, though it is not a predominant force. Throughout the thirty-five minutes of music, a common theme emerges: a sense of simplicity, intimacy, and a minimalistic approach to musical and pianistic elements.

All music composed and arranged by Emilio Teubal (BMI)

Recorded by Chris Benham at Big Orange Sheep Studios.

Mixed and Mastered by Brian Forbes at Soda Aroma Studios

Artwork by Alex Rearick

Produced by Emilio Teubal .

Pianist/composer Emilio Teubal presents his new recording (his sixth as a leader), Futuro. The title track, and most of the music on the album, was conceived of and composed during the initial lockdown in early 2020 and is therefore reflective of Teubal’s experience during this harrowing, uncertain time. The resulting album is an eclectic, modern collection of singular music which represents Teubal’s rumination and contemplation about loss, grieving, and of course about the future; his own, and the world’s. Featuring: Pablo Lanouguere (acoustic and electric bass) Chris Michael (drums on 2,4,8,9,10), Brian Shankar Adler (drums & percussion on 1,3,5,6,7), Fede Diaz (guitar on 1,5,7), Sam Sadigursky (clarinet on 1,5,7), Chris Digman (vibraphone on 3,6,9)

“Tides” is a compilation of improvised and composed pieces for solo piano. The genesis of this music happened during a very compressed period of time in early 2019; all the pieces carry an underlying connection and an overall sense of unity. According to Teubal, 2019 became the year “…in which I personally became worried, aware and extremely conscious about what kind of planet I will leave for my son and his generation”. The title "Tides" refers to the impact of global warming on ocean levels and the subsequent damage it will cause. “Tides" also references the political oscillations surrounding government policies that threaten the chances of properly addressing climate change. Although Teubal did not initially intend this album as a climate change activist statement, these crucial environmental issues were present on an unconscious level. Consequently the music sounds and breathes these themes.

NY based Argentine Pianist and Composer Emilio Teubal celebrates the release of his 4th album as a band leader “Memorias de Otro Tiempo” (memories from another time). After three critically acclaimed records featuring large ensembles with a strong emphasis on improvisation, Emilio’s latest project is a small chamber group consisting on piano, spanish guitar and clarinet. The music, written especially for this ensemble, draws from a wide variety of musical styles that are part of his cultural background: Latin-American Folk music, Tango music, Jazz, Free improvisation, Classical music and some hints of Middle Eastern music. The Emilio Teubal trio features fellow Argentine musicians Ivan Barenboim on clarinets, Federico Diaz on guitar and Emilio Teubal on piano and compositions

"When someone asks you what will be considered the classic albums of this modern jazz age in fifty years time, you should point to this recording (Musica para un Dragon Dormido) as one of them. As near to perfection as you can get” — David Sumer- Bird is the Worn

“In fact it is very possible that Emilio Teubal may have emerged as one of the most outstanding musicians from Argentina, with this record that will surely mark him as one of the deepest thinkers as well as one of the most “Painterly” pianists in modern music” — Raul Da Gama. LatinJazz Network
